Locavore: "Bravo les chefs"

Review by: Vanelloppe | Source: Trip Advisor
Every year when I visit Bali I always wanted to dine in Locavore, but it was so difficult to book a table. This year we are lucky to get a table for lunch, and we are not disappointed despite of high expectations! The ingredients are very good quality, and we see their efforts to find out many local herbs and vegetables and cook in their way, with perfect occidental culinary skills and amazing combinations. Definitely come back next time when I visit Bali.

Discover Muang La | Visit Laos | Luxury & Boutique Hotel: "A very special place"

Review by: Tim L | Source: Trip Advisor
I would echo Meredith, Dan and others who have given this a rating of five - or more. We enjoyed every minute of our time at Muang La Lodge and would have stayed longer if we could have. From the moment we walked through the gates, we felt well cared for and knew we were in good hands at a very special location. The care they take, not only with their guests but with the local villagers, is palpable. We had a room overlooking the river - and the "public" hot springs used the the villagers (which the hotel built for them in exchange for the villagers allowing the hotel to use water from the hot springs). While I was initially concerned upon hearing this, it ended up being a great thing to watch villagers young and old come and use it in the later afternoon. Staff was incredible and went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and well cared for. Both breakfast and dinner were fabulous. The grounds were beautiful and well cared for. Our room was well appointed and very comfortable. The quality of sleep was wonderful: the bed was great with high-quality pillows, and the room was quiet with only a hint of sound from the river outside, which made it even easier to sleep. What are you waiting for - book now!

Manda De Laos: "Idyllic setting and sublime food, with price tag to match"

Review by: 40Kiwiclaire | Source: Trip Advisor
"A beautiful evening meal at Manda, on our first night in Luang. Didn't have a booking but we were early so they found a space for us. Lovely cocktails, and a delicious meal with very attentive service. A table overlooking the lily ponds is just beautiful...but do take yr insect repellent and spray up before you arrive, to make life pleasant. This is a pricey establishment, by Laos standards, but you get what you pay for in terms of really memorable setting and top-drawer food."

Villa Mathis: "Married at La Villa Mathis"

Review by: Ann S | Source: Trip Advisor
I got married here in 2011. We had checked in late as we had to drop our guests off to another hotel they were staying at. However when we checked in, Bruno had actually called in to see how we were and if we had any question or queries to let him know and he'll be in the following day to meet us (my husband & I). This whole place was amazing! We loved the food and also note that this was our first time to Bali as well. Our room was amazing with alot of room and I loved how we entered and the bath tub was filled with flowers. It did get dark at night as our room was at the bottom and when we would come back from excursions, we would have a guard walk us back to our room but after a night or two we were confident to go on our own. The night before our wedding, I had asked if the ladies from our wedding guests could stay the night and the staff organised rooms quickly for them. Our wedding day, Bruno's wife (sorry I forgot your name! lovely lady) had met up with me to see how I was feeling and making sure everything was getting organised as planned. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Our first time to Bali and to have our wedding here was amazing! I would be coming back here hopefully on our fifth year anniversary! Sorry for the late post but thank you La Villa Mathis.

Satri House: "Luxury"

Review by: vie4you | Source: Trip Advisor
A beautiful small resort in the garden of a former palace, which is well renovated, while the new parts are tastefully added, surrounded by a lush and quiet garden. 2 swimming pools, a restaurant and a spa complete the retreat. Superbly decorated, big rooms, ours was with a balcony with all privacy. Roomservice was perfect, they bring a small snack in the afternoon and prepare the room for sleeping in the evening. Breakfast was good (even so the espresso was a payable extra, a bit stingy considering the price). The staff very friendly and helpful - some extra english lessons for them would be good... Location wise a bit out of town, but in a walkable distance or an easy and cheap trip with tuktuk - the advantage of absolute quietness worth.

Manukan Island Resort: "Wow"

Review by: Sue H | Source: Trip Advisor
Spent 3 days, 2 nights here. Started with a lovely greeting by very friendly staff. Great room with water views. Large room, good bathroom and nice verandah to sit on and watch the world go by. Try the walk up to sunset point - was cloudy when I went, but still nice. Food in restaurant is nice, dearer than mainland but still cheap compared to home. Good buffet breakfast. Lots of people on the island during the day with locals coming over, but they all leave late afternoon then it's all yours. Very relaxing, peaceful few days. Went on snorkeling trip to nearby islands from here too. Great. Would love to come back here.

Muang La Lodge: "Northern Laos a very special spa resort"

Review by: Theresa S | Source: Trip Advisor
"Situated on a river with hot springs and nestled in beside a small village this Hotel taught us more about high quality cuisine and life in Laos than any other. It was unseasonably cold but with coal fires in buckets (!) at each table and a large fire pit close by we were never cold. Hotwater bottles in the beds, hot thermal tubs on stilts in amongst the trees, a pool on an island, I think you must be getting the picture that this is a pretty special place. From the hotel we visited hill villages and this is a great place to hike from. Picnics, 4x4 vehicles and guides, transfers etc all organised by this hotel. It is a remote part of Laos and therefore very unspoilt. This is a gem of a hotel in such a far away place "

David’s Kitchen: "Amazing food and friendly staff"

Review by: Bonnie E | Source: Trip Advisor
"Our meal at David's Kitchen was a fantastic experience. David and his staff were very welcoming and David came straight over to introduce himself to us. He told us a little bit about the restaurant and his family and was interested to hear where we had travelled from. The waiters and waitresses were helpful and recommended us options from the menu. The food and wine was absolutely delicious, especially the cheesy gnocchi! Dessert did not disappoint. Although we were full, we couldn't resist the chocolate lava cake and banana crepe! The staff kindly organized us a taxi back to our hotel. We were really glad we made the trip to Davids Kitchen and would highly recommend it when in Chiang Mai! Thank you David and all the staff who made our night so enjoyable!"

Sukoon Houseboat: "Sukoon House Boat refined luxury experience"

Review by: Peter Simon M | Source: Trip Advisor
"We were greeted at the airport with an experienced and very knowledge local guide and immediately made to feel truly welcome and at home, A unique experience to be transported on your personal Shikara (small decorated row boat) across Dal lake to the luxury Sukoon House Boat. The welcome at your boat include cold towels, welcome drink and monogrammed pashmina. The decor, fittings and layout of the boat were all high quality and were complimented with a very strong environmental theme. The food was prepared by a professional chef who always checked with your personal tastes and was served by friendly and professional staff. There was nothing that they would not get for you. A truly relaxing stay in luxury. "
