"The title sums up how we felt about this magical place. The location in Muang La is perfect - far from the disney-land tourist circuit of Luang Prabang (and a beautiful but bendy 5-6 hour drive from there as well!), it's remote but therefore also perfectly situated for exploring the nearby rugged countryside with organised private trecks through the hills, visits to the various ethnic groups and their time-locked villages, followed by a dip in their own natural hot spring and a delicious 5 course meal every evening overlooking the river. The managers Raphael (Swiss) and Job (Dutch), are at the top of their game and do a magnificent job of making you feel like royalty from the moment you arrive until the moment they wave you goodbye on your onward journey. I advise booking at least 4 nights, a package which includes free beer and wine at dinner as well as a free massage and gives enough time to really settle down and experience it all. If you visit Northern Laos and have the budget (not cheap but looking back it feels like truly great value), this place is a must."The River Resort: "Beautify spot"

I cannot say enough good things about this restsurant. Everything was perfect from greeting us at the door to the food to the service. We had a double birthday so we went and everyone wished us Happy Birthday, Mr David came to greet and speak to us as he knew we live in Chiang Mai, the food was to die for (definitely order the pumkin soup for starter) and everything was on point. "Lovely people at a lovely spot. The only thing unfortunate was the cold wheather and Thai brick beds. Other than that plain lovely! If you like quiet the slightly steep price is definitely worth it! "We were looking for a more traditional and authentic Balinese experience and Hotel Tugu Bali exceeded our expectations by far. The hotel overlooking Canggu beach is built from temple remains and furnished with the largest collection of Balinese antiques and artworks. The grounds were beautiful and immaculate with large, amazing, comfortable rooms. The food was beautiful at the fine-dining restaurants (this included a Japanese Restaurant, Ji). Each afternoon complimentary 'High-tea' with local and western delicacies was provided which we never missed! The staff were excellent - so friendly, helpful and willing to assist in any way. This was exemplified by the Manager, Jenny Bellora. The close proximity of the surf kept my husband very happy each day and I enjoyed the relaxing time spent by the pool. Canggu itself is a new and developing area in Bali and the hotel was within walking distance to lovely shops, restaurants, boutiques and a local market. Room Tip: Rejang Suite (bedroom and verandah). "I have been living in Thailand for the past 12 years. And this place is really 1 of the best place to have traditional Thai food. The food portions are just nice. EVERYTHING is delicious! "We stayed here for two nights this week and really enjoyed our stay. The staff are attentive and caring and the whole atmosphere is very relaxing. The restaurant has a wonderful mix of French and Vietnamese food which is five star quality We spend our days by the pool watching the board go by and saw two magnificent sunsets at the end of the piers. I fully recommend taking advantage of the day trips on offer and they are very good and give a great insight into day to day life on unicorn island. If we are ever in the area again we would love to return. Room tip: try and get a river view room, we stayed in room 3 and it was perfect."
