Tugu Malang: "Javanese hospitality at best"

Review by: Resa H | Source: Trip Advisor
"I am truely amazed by the hotel's interior, the service, and the food. If you want to feel what is like to live in a Dutch colonial era of Javanese and Chinese Peranakan culture, then Hotel Tugu is the right place to go. The room is very unique, the service is excellent, you can't ask more from this hotel. The best thing is that the breakfast they serve is literally an ""All you can eat Ala-carte"". You can order anything from their ala-carte menu, literally until your stomach is damn full. You want to find out about Javanese and Chinese Peranakan culture and tradition, then this is the place to visit. "

Rachamankha: "My favorite"

Review by: sarahpbucker | Source: Trip Advisor
"My second visit to his wonderful hotel. The rooms are simple and roomy and the building feels like a piece of history. Lovely staff and a great bar. Best gin and tonic in Thailand? The local Thai breakfast option was delicious and interesting. Definitely worth a try as it's so different to what we expect from Western breakfast. Pool is quiet. No kids! Great!"

Dewakan: "What an unexpectedly amazing meal"

Review by: Mei T | Source: Trip Advisor
"My family surprised me with a birthday dinner. Initially I didn't want to go because its so far away from where we stay. Dewakan opens only for dinner and had its location inside a university college, which didn't make me think that it could be good. The roads leading towards it is really dark and it was raining. When we arrived to the restaurant, it was dark too and they had only 2 set choices in the menu. 5 course (RM180) or 10 course(RM240). It is also mentioned that everyone should order the same menu. So we ordered the 10 course. The food was excellent and very creative, using local produce to its best. There are some stuff that I had never tasted before and it was pure delight to savour the creation. Our RM240 menu consists of: 1. Cured mackerel with ulam, pomelo and local flowers 2. Roast mushrooms with green curry past, yogurt 3. Braised aubergine in mushroom stock, jackfruit seeds, garlic emulsion. 4. Home made noodles with prawns, radish, cold prawn broth (MY FAVORITE) 5. Pike Conger with custard, roasted okra, clams foam (my least favorite, taste fishy) 6. Roast duck breast with beetroots (very yummy) 7. Roasted quail with masala spice, serunding, century egg (very good too) 8. Mulberries wt cardamom ganache, cashew brittles, pucuk gajus (amazing flavors!) 9. Gula Melaka marquise, sour meringue, pulut ice cream (too sweet for me) 10. Warm Chocolate tart, with jackfruit, gandum icecream (Wow!) The amazing varied menu above totally attacks our senses and taste buds and it was a really lovely dinner. Service was good and efficient but towards the end slowed down a bit. And I guess we were really tired by then cos its 10 course, what else could we expect. Our full tummies and the dark room make us sleepy too. 10 course is really too much to handle. Next time, we must have the 5 course instead!"

Cheong Fatt Tze – Blue Mansion: "Great location & beautiful property"

Review by: Benedict T | Source: Trip Advisor
Very friendly & helpful staff, including the manager. Decided to give this hotel a try based on some recommendations, and also due to the fact that i had a work appointment nearby. Great location & many interesting local attractions to visit nearby. Food at the Blue Mansion was brilliant.

Cuca: "Amazing lunch"

Review by: Andrew C | Source: Trip Advisor
Lovely place with a nice garden to wander around. Food was excellent. Meats and seafood were fantastic. Comes tapas style for sharing. Everything was excellent. We ordered every single item on the seafood and meat menu and had nothing to complain about. Every single dish was exquisite. Only complaint was the black pepper ice cream for desert which left an odd after taste. Price wise is a little on the expensive side for Bali. Expect to pay 500k per pax.

Satri House: "Very good hotel, phenomenal staff"

Review by: Shen_Jackson | Source: Trip Advisor
"I truly felt like I was a guest of the staff of this hotel. I must have had 5 conversations with members of staff where I learnt a lot about Lao culture. The hotel itself is very nice, a couple of small pools and a decent restaurant. My room was huge and very nice, it's important to remember that you're at a boutique hotel, not the Four Seasons. As others have written, the staff took care of my every need, they arranged a last minute excursion for me and somehow would manage to set up my room for sleeping the second that I left it for more than 10 minutes. The only negative is that it's a but of a walk into town in the Lao heat, but other that that it's a solid 4 star hotel."

Rachamankha: "A haven within the walled city of Chiang Mai"

Review by: ilana01 | Source: Trip Advisor
"This hotel was simply amazing! So peaceful! The grounds are stunning, the service impeccable. The location is perfect as it is within the walls of the old city of Chiang Mai, so easy to walk everywhere, but yet you don't hear any of the noise. We walked easily to the night market on Sunday as well as Wat Chedi Luang. The food was amazing and breakfast included. Just the breakfast set up was peaceful. You are served on the patio with blue/white china and tea/coffee cups. Everything is served on china or silver. The pool looked amazing, but we unfortunately didn't have time to use it. The room was quaint and relaxing. The shower was great! I loved the large heavy doors. The wifi didn't reach to our room well, but that didn't matter to me much. One of the best hotels I've ever stayed in!"

Chakrabongse Villas: "An Oasis Along the Chao Phraya River"

Review by: NapaBarbara | Source: Trip Advisor
This is simply an oasis, tucked behind gates in a garden setting on the property of a member of the extended royal family. We felt that we were treated like royalty ourselves by Atom and Ohm. They were both so kind and helpful. The property has a resplendent landscaping of fountains, a long trellised archway with potted orchids that leads to the restaurant, which was lighted at night, and a nice private swimming pool surrounded by landscaping. We stayed nine nights and enjoyed the Mali room. The room had all the amenities of a fine large resort but with a more charming character. The room was large enough to be comfortable. We like the coffee bar just outside our room and found it nice to come back and have an English cup of tea after our day tours. The bathroom was kept tidy with fresh towels everyday, and supplied with a nice quality of shampoo, conditioner and lotions should need them. The restaurant overlooking the river is simply elegant. The breakfast was very good and the dinners were sublime. They also have a driver that they arranged to pick us up and return us to the airport for a fair price. This was so nice after a 12 hour flight to be met at the airport, by simple instructions, instead of getting a random cab. The hotel helped us confirm the time of our tour pickups each day we were taking a tour by calling the tour operator on our behalf. They would help us to get reservations at other restaurants when their restaurant was not open. We appreciate their kind and caring assistance. We enjoyed our experience so much that when we return to Bangkok we will stay at Chakrabongse, and so should you.

Glenburn Tea Estate: "What a stunning place"

Review by: Jonathan F | Source: Trip Advisor
"After a bad experience in one of the ""top"" hotels in Darjeeling itself, we came to the Glenburn a night earlier than we had planned. As soon as we arrived and got a very warm welcome from Alex we knew we would like it here. Our room was spotless and beautifully decorated in a colonial style. After settling into our room tea and cake was brought down to us (another major plus as far as we are concerned). The staff were fantastic. Dinner was very civilised and the food was great. A 2.5hr trek down to the river was another highlight...it's quite a trek but we had a great guide and upon arrival one of the team was waiting with cool towels and a drink. We then had G&Ts and a delicious lunch served by the river bank. Magical. Highly recommended and we will definitely come back."

Rachamankha: "Incredible Hotel Stay"

Review by: TripNavigator | Source: Trip Advisor
This hotel is absolutely beautiful and it was the best place we stayed at while in Thailand. It is centrally located to many city attractions and it is within walking distance to several spas, restaurants, etc. The hotel grounds are meticulously maintained and it has a magical feel to it while you stroll through the various buildings. The breakfast is very nicely done and there is a patio so you can enjoy your meal on the terrace. The rooms have more of antique feel with a modern twist - lots of nice amenities including a canopy bed, Molton Brown products, and good A/C. The only challenge I had during my stay in Chiang Main was that I got a lot of bug bites - please note the hotel also provides free bug spray so don't forget to use this religiously if you are prone to bug bites (I made the mistake of going without it for a couple of days). I would highly recommend this hotel to others who go to Chiang Mai...you won't be disappointed!
