Bassac Cruises: "Relaxing way to see the countryside and river"

Review by: Peter-Anagio | Source: Trip Advisor
"We booked a one night cruise and struck lucky as we were the only passengers on board. Even the 4 hour transfer on the first day was soon forgotten when we had lunch on board and cruised along the river and canals. In the afternoon we had a walk around the countryside and sampled some fruit. Everything was explained perfectly by An who gave us a lesson in everything Vietnamese, history, economy, education, social services, you name it, she explained it all to us. Back on board we had a drink followed by dinner. After a nightcap we retired to the small but comfortable a air conditioned cabin with ensuite. Early to rise, we had breakfast on board before transferring to a smaller boat for the final tours of local sugar factory, floating market and rice cake making. Again, expertly explained by An, we sadly said our goodbyes to face the 2 1/2 hour transfer back to Saigon. This was a great way to get to know a piece of the real Vietnam."

The Cabochon Hotel and Residence: "Incredibly friendly and helpful staff"

Review by: Boston_MARambler | Source: Trip Advisor
I recently stayed at the Cabochon for three nights, and found it to be a wonderful respite from the hectic pace of Bangkok, Love the city, but you need a break from it. I stayed in a queen suite with a private balcony and shower--was exactly as advertised--spacious, comfortable, all amenities provided that I need. Only critical comment would be that the shower is actually too hot--I had a hard time controlling the water temperature. Other reviewers have noted the various elements of the hotel--I only used the breakfast area (ate outside), and the a/c'd lounge area for happy hour. didn't use the restaurant or pool. What I found most welcome, other than the quiet respite from the city pace that the hotel provides, despite its location right off Sukhamvit, was the attitude of the staff. From my pre-arrival communication about the best was to get to the hotel from the airport during morning rush hour, to their assistance arranging for a 4:30 am cab and a breakfast box, the staff were superb. I've forgotten a few names, but Pom, Ticha, Nicky, the barman San, were just great. Friendly, solicitous, helpful--exactly what I wanted and received. Really first rate in my opinion,

Labyrinth: "Inventive Menu by Chef / Owner L G Han"

Review by: Neil A | Source: Trip Advisor
"If you are looking for a dining experience to really remember then the one Michelin Star, Labyrinth Restaurant is for you. We enjoyed the ten (10) course, very inventive, degustation menu with matching wines. This was not a 'cheap meal out' alternative but what an experience. The sensational flavours Chef Han has 'developed / created' and presents beautifully onto your plate are to die for and create much discussion if you are lucky enough to be sharing this experience (and I mean a 'real experience') with someone. Each course is described by the excellent staff, who are attentive, but not overly so, which is good for a dining experience. We were lucky enough to get to talk to Chef / Owner Han (apparently an Investment Banker ?? in a previous life), who is a very dedicated and focused Chef and ever so willing to talk about his passion for food, presentation, attention to detail and how and why he set out to create the 'truly innovative' fair he offers at Labyrinth. If you're in Singapore, love food and wine and like to challenge your taste buds with something very different, then Labyrinth will certainly meet your every expectation."

Glenburn Tea Estate: "Truly worth the back breaking journey"

Review by: ranjanapte | Source: Trip Advisor
"We travelled from Pelling to Glenburn and the journey to put it mildly is HORRENDOUS. ""Roads""""do not exist and one can feel the bumps in every corner of your body. The last 45mins to an hour is equally bad but the place more than makes up for the travel hazard. Faye and Will (the outgoing Managers) take great care of your every need and the service is extremely personalized. One is not rushed into doing anything, whether it be food timings or day trips. Ranjan Chhetri the local manager is gracious and feeds you with anecdotes of the surroundings. We stayed at the Rose Suite which is well appointed and has ALL creature comforts besides truly living up to its name!!! We ere also lucky to meet up with the estate manager Mr Hussain. He regaled us with stories of the region where he has spent more than 26yrs. The common dining area is a good meeting point fro all the guests but one also has an option to dine in your room with silver service. A must visit again place. Excellent collection of books and magazines to read. No television in the room is a great boon. Kindly try and do something about the road to and from the property."

Tugu Lombok: "Peaceful destination"

Review by: mpbq | Source: Trip Advisor
"We spent a wonderful 10 days at Tugu Hotel. We had booked last minute and stayed in a large villa. The villa was nicely decorated and furnished. The villa had a large semi open bathroom and a 7 metre pool in a private garden. There were views across the lawn to the sea. The were 2 outdoor communal pools in the very large gardens fronting the sea. The gardens have been landscaped and there is a super collection of Indonesian artefacts including statues, temples and various other objects. The menu has both Indonesian traditional dishes and western, We ate Indonesian dishes the whole time. The cooking is first class. Breakfast is served all morning and comprises of both local dishes and healthy western options. We visited the spa on a number of occasions and left feeling very relaxed. All the staff were fantastic from the people who cleaned the villa, the gardeners, restaurant staff and management. They could never do enough to make the stay memorable. They were courteous, happy and always had a smile for you. It was a truly wonderful holiday and we look forward to returning soon."

muang la: "Unexpectedly delightful"

The management is superb, each meal delicious, serene location in the countryside and wonderful staff. Also, the massages are special and the hot springs a surprise. We heartily recommend Muang La Resort to all.

Cuisine Wat Damnak: "Value for Money"

Review by: foolbelk | Source: Trip Advisor
"One of the most important thing for us when traveling is to have a nice dinner that feature the local cuisine and fresh produce. This restaurant did just that. Local cuisine done right with modern techniques. I believe some reviewers gave a lower rating because they did not take the full 6-course menu, of which the missing course is one of the best. USD31 for 6-course degustation menu that is executed to perfection, is definitely value for money. Thumbs up and we will definitely come again. Remember to make reservation."

Bassac Cruises: "Delightful, personal trip down Mekong"

Review by: Sallie M | Source: Trip Advisor
"The boat (Bassac II) was just fabulous. We travelled at Tet, so the activities were slightly different than usual, but Tuch (spelling?) did a fantastic job. The village walk was surprisingly fun - the kids (we travelled with an 8 and 6 year old) loved it - and even ate the fruit at the end - a miracle! The rooms are so sweet. The food was lovely, and plentiful! The staff were all nice -but special shout out to Tuch. Engaged and entertaining, and knowledgeable. The boat has beautiful detail. The pace on the boat is very relaxed. We absolutely loved it. I recommend for people who enjoy relaxed, informal, but engaged service; good honest food; small groups; and who are interested in seeing some of the Mekong."

Mie Cafe: "Lovely little restaurant with absolutely delicious food."

Review by: Alison H | Source: Trip Advisor
"My daughter recommended this restaurant having visited it last year. We were not disappointed. We ate from the a la carte menu but were tempted by the gourmet set menus. The food was beautifully presented and the flavours were magical. I highly recommend this little gem, set in a beautiful garden setting."
