Rak Ko Jae Seoul: "Rakkojae first 3 nights, Ritz Carlton last 2 nights. Cried the last 2 nights"

Review by: TheHungryHawaiian | Source: Trip Advisor
"Out of selfishness, I wish I could keep the Rakkojae a secret and post the stay as poorly managed, noisy, and uncomfortable. Or maybe that the Rakkojae reminded me of a fake Hollywood set for a Korean drama. Or better yet, that Rakkojae is located in a completely inconvenient location with zero access to historic areas and their iconic shop-filled alleys. Selfishness loses this one. The host was too nice to ever wish anything bad for them. Take everything stated and translate each into their polar opposite. That's Rakkojae. The stay carries a physical and emotional warmth that can't be described without using the word ""home."" A super nice, quiet home with heated jade floors, and served breakfasts causing one to reflect upon why one needs energy and brain robbing sweet carbos to start the day. How about fresh rice, cured fish, panchon with amazing kimchi, rice porridge tea and a different secret dessert every day. The Location If you arrive in the evening, your cab driver will wonder if your address is correct. Once you take a final turn down a narrow alley, you'll also begin wondering if you missed a digit on your address. But it's oh, sooo right. Once you start walking to any of the sights, you'll realize how perfect the location is for walking everywhere. Moreover, it's close enough to the subway for jaunts into the city. In the main city or otherwise, the street food alleys will help you regain your faith in the idea of street food. Unique, scrumptious, and absolutely no digestive drama -- other than various self-induce triggers from over-indulging. Kids OK? I have a feeling that if you have more than one child (we had our lone 8 yr old), and/or if your kids are typically loud and excitable, you might feel self-conscious because Rakkojae and the area is very quiet. The people are too nice to reject you for this, but you will be aware of how loud you actually can be. Ahhh. Peace and quiet. It's the price we parents often pay for having our bundles of joy. In fact, in the historic residential area you'll see more ""keep quiet"" signs than you'll ever see in a dozen libraries. It's not that kids can't run amok with joy, laughter while screaming their bloody lungs with excitement, but perhaps limited ""happy drama"" on the Rakkojae premises will allow one to blend-in a bit. Frankly, our child had no interest in running and screaming amok on site. It's so beautiful and peaceful that even a kid can feel odd belting the lyrics to Moana at 11p under such peaceful conditions. She saved it later for the streets. Sorry Seoul. Our last days at the Ritz Carlton in Seoul were fine. But all of us would have traded it all to move back to Rakkojae in a heartbeat. Go. I'm Hawaiian, so I don't promise anything, but the Rakkojae is a stay that will become part of your memory of the trip vs. merely being a cool place because they have bounce rooms for kids, mini bars and lots of people you could have met at some function back home. MOAAana!"

Le Du Wine Bar & Restaurant: "Interesting culinary experience"

Review by: London D D | Source: Trip Advisor
"We finally made it to LeDu and were not disappointed. A modern minimalistic designed restaurant and categorizing its cuisine is a bit difficult. It could be defined as Young Creative Cuisine with Thai Roots blended with international flavors You have a choice of a la carte but we went for the tasting menu of 5 courses and loved it. The service staff is very friendly and explain every dish carefully- which sometimes is not easy describing the complex flavor combinations. Its really a unique & interesting dining experience and we will be back"

Rak Ko Jae Seoul: "A nice respite from a busy life and city"

Review by: Melissa W | Source: tripadvisor.com
Rak Ko Jae was truly a peaceful respite after a long day of travel to South Korea. I had read lots of reviews and expected the experience to be a little more... interactive perhaps? Really, this was a pretty solitary experience as we seemed to be the only ones there and only had contact with the staff at meal times. The hanok was smaller than I expected and very quaint. I woke up at 5am and actually WANTED to get out of bed and go outside and just sit and breathe the fresh air and listen to the sparrows sing and fly around me. It was so peaceful and quiet and still. (...) I highly recommend Rak Ko Jae, but I would also say to expect a very quiet and somewhat uneventful experience while you stay. The uneventfulness of our stay was a treat, and we didn't leave once between check-in and check-out! They even reminded us that check-out was 15 minutes away... we were aware, just trying to soak up every bit of our time there.

CABOCHON HOTEL & RESIDENCE: "Bangkok’s Finest Boutique Hotel"

Review by: AndyBoyForever | Source: tripadvisor.com
Every time I visit Bangkok, Cabochon is my accommodation choice. In fact, I've stayed there five times. And each time, the experience was better than the last. I love the old world charm, chic colonial decor, delicious breakfast, and warm and sincere service. Its restaurant Thai Lao Yeh serves good Isan inspired cuisine. The shaved ice desserts are to diet for. The location is convenient, just 10 mins walk to Bangkok's newest mall EMQuartier. The very hip Sing Sing Theatre is a stone's throw away. Cabochon is a must stay if you love original non-cookie cutter hotels. I'll definitely be back!

The Village House: "Your own little village"

Review by: Kosmosis707 | Source: Trip Advisor
"I loved our stay at the Village House! First, just to make it clear, the Village House is NOT in the actual city of Kuching. It’s in Santubong Village, which I believe was about a 30 minute cab ride from Kuching. I didn’t experience much of Kuching, but I can tell you that being outside of the city felt very nice to my girlfriend and I. As we arrived during low season, my girlfriend and I had this wonderful little place virtually to ourselves. The rooms are not large and somewhat basic, but they were still comfortable. If you are a late starter or like to lounge in your room during the day, the rooms do get quite hot. A better option is to read, work, or internet surf by the pool and take an occasional dip to keep cool. The pool….beautiful. It’s not huge so I am unsure what it is like in high season, but my girlfriend and I shared some wonderful experiences there, including taking a swim during a tropical rainstorm. The design of the property is wonderful and it really does give you a feel that you are in your own village. It is well maintained and cared after by the staff. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, even for my sometimes demanding partner…oi! But I digress…they always did a nice job arranging transportation. We actually arrived when the governor of Sarawak had passed away so several companies stopped running in acknowledgment of the passing. This left us stranded on one excursion. But the staff stopped what they were doing and provided us transportation themselves. That was very kind and we were very grateful. Activities are not too far away. As a matter of fact, for some you are much closer than you would be in Kuching, like the Sarawak Cultural Village, Kuching Wetland National Park, Mt. Santubong, and the AMAZING Bako National Park. I highly recommend the Village House for your stay, especially if you are looking for a peaceful little haven. Stayed January 2017, traveled as a couple"
