The Island Lodge: "Peaceful place with great food"
"We stayed at the Island Lodge in January 2017 for three nights. A wonderful, peaceful spot with fantastic service and food! We were glad that we chose a riverview room and enjoyed watching life pass us by on the Mekong. The transfer from the airport took about 2 hours. We took a coconut farm tour offered by the lodge that was great, a combo of a boat ride and bicycling through back paths around the island that had little or no traffic. We also had the same guide, Kuy (not sure how he spelled it) take us across the river to the small city of My Tho. We took bikes and visited the Buddhist temple and the fruit market and got a good taste of Vietnam life in an area with few Westerners. The Island Lodge would be a nice stop before or after the chaos of Ho Chi Minh City. Stayed January 2017, traveled as a couple"Reverie Siam Pai: "Wonderful 2 night stay"
We had an amazing stay here, highly recommended from the lovely mountain view room to the lovely breakfasts and dinners. The staff were so friendly and welcoming I would not hesitate to recommend this resort.
We stayed here two nights rather than the three scheduled because of a change in itinerary. Room was gorgeous, pool and gardens the same. Probably the best breakfast we had throughout our stay in Malaysia (mostly in Borneo). Front desk staff helpful in answering our questions, set up a day long tour with local guide, to visit the specific sights we wanted to see. All around excellent. We just wish we could have stayed the extra night.Reverie Siam: "Amazing Resort"
"Second time here and we got a free upgrade to mountain view room!! Thanks Nink @ Guest relations. The resort is beautiful, lovely rooms with unique items such as type writers and books to make its French colonial style very realistic. The marble floors and luxurious bathrooms Are perfect. The toiletries are all local and sourced from natural ingredients which is great and smell delicious!! Refilled daily. The rooms have big tv's and DVD players and you can borrow (free) DVDs from front desk. The wifi throughout the hotel is excellent, consistent and I mean everywhere, perfect!! The staff are very friendly, attentive and welcoming. The free shuttle cart to the city centre is very helpful and they pick you up too!! The pools are lovely, clean and a very good temperature. We love the hotel and will certainly be back for a third time...!"Cuisine Wat Damnak: "Fine dining at very good value for money"
So pleased I reserved this restaurant 90 days before we got there! It is so much in demand and I am not surprised. We chose the 6-course dinner accompanied by their recommended wine and with each course you look forward to the next one. Art on a plate and simply delicious. Just $31 for the 6-courses! Unheard of!!! Chef came round each table for our comments which we really did appreciate especially when the restaurant is so busy. The hostess was also very helpful and pleasant.: "True gastronomy in Udonthani"
Might be the only restaurant in the northeast that has strong gastronomic concept, similar to those with Michelin stars or World’s 50 Best rank. We did their 10 course tasting menu. Every dish was presented in a modern way but used the ingredients that are very sustainable, local ,and mostly can only be found in Isan (Northeast). Even I’m a Thai I was quite surprised that 50% of the vegetables used are those I never heard of. They also focus on “food as a medicine” concept too and they are eager to explain the benefits of each ingredient. A la carte menu is also amazing. Even we were very full we couldn’t resist ordering Crispy Pork with Tamarind Chili Paste...loved it. And don’t forget the dessert...grand finale:)Golden Buddha Beach Resort: "Paradise"
"This is one of my favorite places in the world. As soon as you wade ashore off the long tail boat that drops you off you know your somewhere special. It's a wonderful escape from work, city living and the world. There's nothing to do here but relax. A 10km long beach with pretty much no one on it and beautiful water. Small islands and mangrove swamps to explore by kayak. Beautiful beach homes to kick back in. The option of yoga in the morning and massage any time of day. Stayed January 2017, traveled with family"Samuay & Sons: "The only truly serious food in Udon Thani"
"My partner and I have dined at Samuay & Sons half a dozen times since we discovered it almost a year ago. After our first visit I waxed lyrical about the food in a review here, so I won't just repeat myself. Suffice it to say that owner/chefs Num and Joe take the idea of food very seriously indeed, from the sourcing of the best available meats, vegetables, herbs and other ingredients either locally or from specialist sources around the country, to the health benefits of those ingredients, to the flavourful combinations that they dream up, to the creative presentation and plating, and -- at the end of the day -- to the sheer sensory enjoyment of discerning customers. If none of the above appeals to you, and you just want to eat stuff you are used to eating, without any delightful surprises, then don't waste Num and Joe's efforts -- or your own time - just go where you normally hang out and give Samuay & Sons a wide berth. But if you love to be surprised by seriously innovative culinary skills then hasten your way to Ponepisai Road in Udon Thani city and have the best food experience for probably many hundreds of kilometers around. It is beyond me why this restaurant is not rated #1 here on TA, but I guess there will always be punters who come expecting a bog-standard duck laab or som tam and when they can't get it feel cheated. Or the others who think paying 1,000 Baht (my bill on Tuesday) for five plates of the most serious food you'll find north-east of Bangkok too expensive because they are used to eating at Tesco food court or UD Town market. What can I say? A big thank you to Num and Joe who have raised the standard of cuisine in this part of Thailand, and who make my visits to Udon so much more enjoyable!"Amata Lanna: "Great service"
The hotel was very close to the open market . The room was very clean with very cormfotsble beds, but the most amazing thing was the great service . Everyone there had a great attitude and made us feel very welcomed.
