Satri House: "Absolute oasis of calm and tranquility"
After the hustle of Hanoi we flew into Luang Prabang and spent 3 nights at the Satri House Hotel, it was superb. In easy walking distance from the town centre, fantastic beautifully furnished room and lovely grounds with charming pool. The staff were also first class --- I can't think of a single criticism. We have travelled in Indochina before and use trip advisor regularly but this is the first time I have ben moved to write a review ---it was excellent.Maison Polanka: "Just the best!"
We stayed here for 3 nights. The grounds, the staff, the rooms, the attention to detail, everything is perfect. Off the main drag of Siem Reap is this oasis of a hotel. You enter through the sliding gate to see a beautiful garden and staff waiting to meet you. As you walk along the path with a staff member you see the open air dining area, the pool and the few buildings that house your perfect room. Don't miss Maison PolankaDewakan: "Pride of Malaysia: A culinary journey that reflects Malaysia’s heritage"
"We went for the full works - a 10-course dinner at RM207 per person, and we were not disappointed in the least! Although there are 10 courses described in the menu, we were served a number of finger foods to munch on before the first appetizers were served. , such as fried fish fritters that taste like the traditional East Coast snack, keropok lekor and were shaped like long, elegant twigs that were thought were merely decorative items at first. The starters included a refreshing razor clam salad, the razor clams being a staple of many local seafood restaurants, but given a twist as was served with shaved ice flavoured with a medley of savoury local tastes and colours that made it look more like a dessert at first - only to be pleasantly surprised by the savory, exotic flavours blended together in an icy bite. The next few courses were equally outstanding, taking us through the kind of preparation techniques you would only find in the fanciest restaurants, from flavour-infused foam, to purees and emulsions, meat cooked confit-style, and even to salted egg yolks harded, pressed into thin slices, and broken into brittle pieces... and yet using the humblest of flavours, vegetables and ingredients that remind any Malaysian that grew up in this country of grandma's cooking. Another stand out dish was the Forbidden Porridge, which had almost-raw slivers of ox tongue served on soft, sticky black glutinous rice and accompanied by a mushroom and wild vegetable broth that they boil in a coffee syphon, with the whole vegetables, roots and all, thrown into the mix, for an incredibly heady flavour that becomes especially intense when you pour it over the ox tongue and black rice and mix all of it together. The desserts are equally impressive, from the meringues to the ganache to the ice cream made from delicious, Southeast Asian local flavours. Again, just as the razor-clam blended dessert inspiration (in the form of shaved ice sprinkled with coloured syrups) in a savory dish, the desserts push the boundaries by using savory flavours eg. pulut (glutinous rice) in a sweet ice cream. It's an experience that starts off confusing, then pleasantly surprising, and then ends in an incredibly satisfying way. Service was great, especially impressive as they are manned by a staff made mostly of students-in-training. If you love fine dining, exquisite cooking methods, and aromatic Southeast Asian flavours, Dewakan is THE restaurant to visit in Malaysia. In one sitting, this is possibly THE most varied and comprehensive tasting of the Malaysian food culture prepared with the finest culinary techniques by a team of professional chefs."Tugu Lombok: "Too good… Tugu!"
We are travellers who enjoy the splurge when it's worth it but never like to return to locations we have previously visited (the world is just too big). Tugu is one of those places we would love to visit again though, if only for its uniqueness. One of the first things you'll hear on your intro is that Tugu is not for everyone and this is the kind of thing that makes me happy on holidays. Who wants to spend money to get holidays that are "for everyone"? In Tugu you will be taken care of individually. We stayed 4 nights at Dadap Merah on the Retreat package and definitely recommend the package to all. The room is unique and -frankly- perfect. We loved the rustic quirkiness of the resort and the kindness of all staff. Terima kasih and you again!SEEDS Restaurant & Lounge: "I would give even more stars if possible!!!"
"******************************** My whole experience there was AMAZING!!! I went there for lunch and found out on the spot that they had a special business menu, changing every day according to the chef's inspiration (and very reasonably priced). The menu is 2 or 3 courses, with a couple of options for starters and mains. The fine dinning starts with amuse-bouche and I also got some ""miniardiases"" to conclude on a lovely sweet note! The ambiance of the restaurant is lovely thanks to Lucia's care and sense of harmony. Felix, the Michelin's star chef who is running the kitchen, was not there the day I visited but he has trained his chefs very well as all the dishes were perfectly executed. The produces are fresh, locally and organically grown when possible. The staff is very attentive. More than a delicious restaurant, it is a social enterprise with the couple incorporating local skills and goods, not only the content of the plates but also in all the elements of the decor. The result is a beautiful blend which deserve many stars! I cannot express the enjoyment I had, it has to be experienced... so your turn is up, it worth the trip!!! *********************************"Rachamankha: "A wonderful place"
Rachamankha Hotel is the best place that I ever had to hold a party of 50 people. The staff were very efficient and friendly. They picked up all my guests from the airport and checked them in to their rooms speedily with no hazels. Rooms are extremely neat, tidy and clean. Everyone said the same thing "bed was so comfortable and I had an extremely good sleep". The entire hotel was beautifully decorated with flowers and a collection of beautiful ceramics which are displayed in a well-lit cabinet. The lobby courtyard and the restaurant courtyard provided extra space for pre-dinner drinks and after dinner party. Food was extremely good. The hotel had also arranged the best in town live band and photographer for us. In the morning, the hotel had also installed a big bed of flowers next to the dinning room. Everyone was refreshed and pleased. All of us had a wonderful weekend. I sincerely thank Paul (the manager) for his second to no one organization skills in making my party so successful. Rachamankha, you are unbeatable!Villa Song Saigon: "How Hotels Should Be"
"A mini break for 4 nights escaping the winter in Perth, Australia. Villa Song lived up to its #1 ranking on tripadvisor. Villa Song is a world class boutique, luxury hotel experience at less than the cost to stay in a country motel in Australia. From the glorious large river room with tall ceilings and colonial touches to the rain shower and crisp white linen the room delivers everything a weary traveller could possibly want. Fast free wi-fi, check. Free mini-bar, check. Free a la carte cooked breakfast, check. Individual coffee maker in room, check. So called 5 Star hotels could do well to introduce some of these features. The staff were polite, helpful and everyone from the pool to the front desk made us feel like welcome guests. The luxury (free) powerboat shuttle into the city is an absolute stroke of genius. A 20 minute relaxing river journey delivers you into the heart of HCMC and rescues you again when you are ready to return. All the convenience of a city centre hotel with none of the noise and chaos. It's hard to fault this place. The restaurant is good if you don't want to explore the other (many) local options, but not as outstanding as the rest of the hotel. If I were to be picky, there is no lift and if you are staying on the top floor, there is an easy 3 flights to help you exercise off your last meal!. I will stay here again, so should you."Cuisine Wat Damnak: "A Must Visit"
The food is amazing. If you are planing to come to Siem Reap try to book in advance and get your fantastic Khmer food cuisine experience here you won't be disappointed. Great taste, great service and great host from the owners.Villa Song Saigon: "Perfect Hotel for our Saigon Experience"
"We loved this hotel from the moment we arrived and it really set the scene for our fantastic stay in Saigon. It is a really beautiful hotel in a peaceful, quiet location away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It sits on the Saigon river and offers a free speed-boat shuttle service up to District 1 and the main tourist areas. The staff were very friendly and efficient and always ready to help or answer any questions. Our room was tasteful and the beds were extremely comfortable, and the free complimentary mini bar was appreciated. It should be mentioned that there is no lift at this hotel so if you don’t want to climb stairs I suggest you request a ground floor room. The choice of breakfast from the a la carte menu was fabulous and could be taken at any time during the day which worked well for us. Even though we were a party of 4 the staff arranged the tables by the river so that we could all sit together. The fabulous swimming pool was very inviting and offered a beautiful haven to relax in the sunshine. I can highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay there again. "Le Calao: "Lovely lunch, perfect service & airconditioned"
"We just had lunch. Ordered a lovely bottle of the house red, a French merlot to accompany our lunch consisting of grilled perch, grilled chicken, duck laarb and an eggplant dip. Service was excellent. The airconditioning helped cool us down on a hot day after visiting Wat Xienthong. Prices are slightly on the high side but now than made up by the delicious food and attentive, friendly and professional service"
